Right over the eastern border, prominent Welsh writers such as Horatio Clare, Owen Sheers and Gillian Clarke are heading the bill at literary festivals, writing centres and poetry evenings in London, Bath, Liverpool and Cambridge. But what about Ireland? ‘What happened to me, the marks on my body, the memories, they are going to be my souvenirs.’ These words are those of a victim and survivor of torture recounting the horrific experiences she went through. The words are immortalised in the play What treats have you got in store for the Bath Literature Festival this year? It’s the festival’s 20th anniversary so it’s a bumper-packed edition of 140 events across 10 days with more than 200 writers and performers, including Kazuo Ishiguro Picking a good book can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. There are just SO many. Luckily, the literary experts over at the Independent Bath Literature Festival have put together a definitive list of the best 20 novels from the past two decades. This year marks the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible's publication Famous writers and actors are taking part in a non-stop read through of the King James Bible in Bath to celebrate its 400th anniversary. The challenge, one of the highlights of the talks and literature feature in the programme, with a performance by internationally renowned Keith and Julie Tippett among the highlights. The locally-based jazz duo, who will be at the festival after touring Japan, will appear with Bath band Radio Banska .

The Bath Literature Festival will welcome a whole host of leading writers and experts to the city for its 20th anniversary in January. This year's special anniversary programme is available to view online and aims to feature the best in contemporary fiction. Big names are heading for the Independent Bath Literature Festival which is celebrating its 20th anniversary under the artistic direction of Bruton’s Viv Groskop. The renowned writer and comedian has shaped up an impressive programme of talks and As one arts festival director once said: "There is a literature festival every five minutes James Mullinger: Bad Boy of Feminism: GQ's Comedy Editor brings his sold-out tour show to Bath. 8 March, 8pm, £7.50. Also featured are Steve Cole and Frank Cottrell-Boyce. Several workshops take place throughout the festival, including graphic novels, crime writing and cartoon drawing. Tickets are on sale from the Bath Festival of Children's Literature website. .
